COURSE OVERVIEW

The Bachelor of Policing Practices Honours qualification aims at improving performance excellence and enhancing relationships with both internal and external clients of the law enforcement environment. This Bachelor of Policing Practices Honours degree reflects the workplace-based needs of the law enforcement sector that relate to the managerial competencies. 

 
FURTHER STUDY OPPORTUNITIES:

Successful completion of the Bachelor of Policing Practices Honours enables further studies towards the Master of Policing on NQF Level 9 or an equivalent NQF level 9 programme.

Entry Requirements

THE ADMISSION CRITERIA FOR THE BACHELOR OF POLICING PRACTICES (HONOURS) ARE:

 

  • a STADIO Bachelor of Policing Practices degree (NQF 7); or

  • another approved (NQF 7) degree.

 

Bridging Modules: In the event of an applicant not complying with the standard admission requirements as stated above, he/she must complete the following bridging modules prior to commencing with the qualification: 

 

POLICING ELECTIVE:
Students should register for the following bridging modules during the first semester of study:
  • Police Management III 

  • Crime Prevention Management III 

  • Service Oriented Policing II 

 
TRAFFIC ELECTIVE:
Students should register for the following bridging modules during the first semester of study:
  • Police Management III 

  • Traffic Police Science III 

  • Crime Prevention Management III 

 

STADIO is committed to achieving inclusion and to overcome barriers to access and success in higher education. Applicants who do not meet the stated admission criteria, but who have relevant work experience and/or prior learning may apply for admission under the policy on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). STADIO admits a maximum of 10% per cohort via RPL. The implementation of RPL is context-specific, in terms of discipline, programme and level.  Further information may be obtained from your Student Recruitment Advisor.

COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Policing Practices Honours degree consists of six (6) modules: five (5) compulsory modules and one (1) elective module.

    COMPULSORY MODULES

    • Police Management 

    • Leadership in the Safety and Security Environment 

    • Research Methodology 

    • Organisational Behaviour in the Safety and Security Environment 

    • Project Management

    SELECT ONE OF THE ELECTIVE MODULES

    • Applied Policing Studies

    • Traffic Police Science 

      Research Methodology V (MET50A) is a compulsory subject. It must be taken on commencement of the Honours degree.
