MUSGRAVE (DURBAN) CAMPUS

JACKIE GOUNDEN

Head of Campus: Musgrave

For nearly two decades, Jackie Gounden has been shaping lives and leading teams in higher education. With over 18 years of experience and an MBA, she brings not only strategic insight but a genuine love for people and purpose to her role as Head of Campus at STADIO Musgrave.

Jackie’s journey in higher education began almost by chance, but it quickly became her passion. Before joining STADIO, she spent more than seventeen years at another leading South African institution, where she progressed through various senior management roles. During this time, she led large, multidisciplinary teams, grew student numbers, and implemented systems that improved efficiency, enhanced the student journey, and strengthened institutional reputation.

Her broad exposure across academic and professional divisions has given her a holistic understanding of how every part of a campus ecosystem contributes to success. Over the years, she’s built a reputation for being both results-driven and relentlessly people-focused. Her philosophy is simple: when people feel supported, they perform at their best.

As Head of Campus, Jackie oversees academic and professional staff, leading with a style that balances empathy and accountability. At STADIO Musgrave, she is focused on building a student-centred culture that combines academic excellence with a sense of belonging and purpose. Her leadership ensures that every student’s experience reflects STADIO’s core values of service, integrity, quality, and people first.

Jackie is known for her forward-thinking, progressive outlook and her ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on execution. She thrives on solving complex challenges, developing people, and creating spaces where both students and staff can flourish. Her teams describe her as a leader with calm confidence, a quick sense of humour, and a relational leadership style — one who celebrates wins loudly, tackles challenges head-on, and never loses sight of the human being behind the job title.
She sees her role not just as managing the campus, but as shaping a community — one that nurtures curiosity, confidence, and belonging.

Beyond her professional achievements, Jackie is passionate about mentorship, women’s leadership, and redefining what modern higher education leadership looks like. She believes that great leaders inspire not through authority, but through authenticity — and that courage and compassion can, and should, co-exist at every level of leadership. Outside of work, Jackie finds balance in spending time outdoors, watching sunsets, taking spontaneous road trips, and enjoying long drives with good music and even better company. Most of all, she treasures time spent with her husband and three children. These moments remind her of the bigger picture — that leadership, like life, is about connection, purpose, and staying true to what matters most.
