THE HOME OF ALL THINGS SPORT AT STADIO

STADIO SPORT

Our STADIO Sport framework is built on three clear levels:

Level 1: Recreational Sport This is about participation, wellbeing and community. It gives both students and staff the opportunity to engage in sport in a relaxed and social way, while also creating the foundation for inter-campus events and campus pride. We have already invested in quality recreational facilities across campuses, including multi courts, football fields, pickleball courts and netball courts. These spaces are there to be activated, used and enjoyed. Campuses are also encouraged to arrange friendly fixtures with other institutions. These engagements are about experience and connection and take place under campus identity rather than high performance representation, with the necessary approvals in place.

Level 2: Competitive Club Participation This level introduces structured, competitive sport through club affiliation. Students and staff can participate either through STADIO linked clubs or approved external clubs near campuses. We have already established key relationships, including: STADIO Pretoria Rugby Club supporting both Centurion and Waterfall campuses Amanzimtoti Netball Club supporting Musgrave STADIO Durbanville Netball Club and Durbell Rugby Club supporting Durbanville These partnerships are carefully selected to ensure the right balance of accessibility, culture and competitive opportunity. They create pathways for students to grow in sport while remaining connected to STADIO.

Level 3: High Performance Sport This is where we are building our competitive edge and national presence. Our focus codes are currently rugby and netball, selected intentionally as team sports that support both male and female participation. It is important to note that not all sporting codes can be rolled out across all campuses at once due to the level of infrastructure, expertise and investment required. Our approach is deliberate and phased to ensure sustainability and excellence.

RUGBY AT STADIO

From participation in USSA 7s in 2023 through to winning and securing promotion in USSA 15s in both 2025 and 2026, our trajectory has been exceptional. The ambition is clear, we are working towards Varsity Shield and ultimately Varsity Cup participation. High performance rugby is currently based in Pretoria through the STADIO Pretoria Rugby Club.

NETBALL AT STADIO

From a challenging start in 2023, we have seen a remarkable turnaround, with division wins and promotion in both 2025 and 2026. Our sights are firmly set on Varsity Sport participation. High performance netball is based in Durbanville through the STADIO Durbanville Netball Club, where dedicated leadership and infrastructure are being strengthened. The Durbanville netball facilities are nearing completion and will soon provide a true home for our netball programme.

STADIO AND SA RUGBY

STADIO SA RUGBY

STADIO and SA Rugby: A Partnership Built on Growing South Africa

Some partnerships are built on sponsorship. Others are built on shared purpose. The relationship between STADIO and SA Rugby is founded on a common belief in the potential of South Africans and the power of bringing people together to achieve greatness. For generations, the Green and Gold jersey has united the nation. When the Springboks take to the field, South Africans from all walks of life stand together behind a common goal. Rugby has an extraordinary ability to inspire hope, ignite national pride, and remind us that our greatest achievements come when we work as one.

In much the same way, STADIO brings people together through the transformative power of education. Across South Africa, students from diverse backgrounds embark on journeys of growth, determination, and achievement. Those journeys culminate on the graduation stage, where families, friends, and communities come together to celebrate success and the opportunities that education creates. While one brand represents excellence on the sporting field and the other champions excellence in higher education, both organisations share a commitment to building a stronger South Africa. Both invest in people. Both create opportunities. Both believe that success is achieved through dedication, discipline, and the collective pursuit of something greater than ourselves.

The Green and Gold bring South Africans together when they play. STADIO brings South Africans together when they graduate. Together, these moments represent more than victories and qualifications. They represent progress, possibility, and the future of our nation. As proud South African brands, STADIO and SA Rugby are united by a vision of growth, empowerment, and excellence. Through this partnership, we celebrate the resilience, ambition, and potential of South Africans everywhere, on the field, in the classroom, and beyond.

Because when South Africans come together, remarkable things happen.

Their journey reflects the shared belief of STADIO and SA Rugby that success is built through dedication, perseverance, and a commitment to lifelong growth. As they bring South Africans together on the rugby field, they remind us that learning never stops, and that true champions prepare for success both during and beyond their playing careers. On and off the field, they represent the very best of what South Africa can achieve.

Youth Weeks

STADIO and SA Rugby Youth Weeks: Investing in Tomorrow's Champions

STADIO is proud to celebrate the rich legacy and impact of SA Rugby's prestigious Youth Weeks, which continue to serve as a vital platform for identifying, developing, and showcasing South Africa's most promising rugby talent.

Among these tournaments, the Grant Khomo Week and Craven Week stand out as iconic fixtures in the South African sporting calendar. The Grant Khomo Week, featuring Under-16 players from across the country, represents a critical stage in young athletes' development journeys. It offers talented schoolboy rugby players an opportunity to compete at an elite level while fostering values such as teamwork, discipline, resilience, and sportsmanship.

The Craven Week, widely regarded as the pinnacle of schoolboy rugby in South Africa, has a proud history of producing some of the country's greatest rugby legends. This Under-18 tournament provides a national stage for top-performing players to showcase their abilities, often serving as a pathway to provincial, professional, and national rugby representation.

As an institution committed to nurturing potential and empowering future leaders, STADIO recognises the important role sport plays in personal growth and educational development. The values demonstrated on the rugby field mirror those required for success in higher education and beyond: commitment, perseverance, leadership, and excellence.

Through its association with youth sport and rugby development, STADIO supports the aspirations of young South Africans who are striving to achieve their goals both academically and athletically. The Grant Khomo Week and Craven Week are more than rugby tournaments; they are platforms where future leaders, professionals, and sporting champions begin to shape their futures.

At STADIO, we believe that potential deserves opportunity, and we are proud to celebrate the young talent, dedication, and excellence showcased at SA Rugby's Youth Weeks.

STADIO SPORT AFFILIATIONS

STADIO is proud to partner with several rugby unions across South Africa, creating opportunities for talented student-athletes to pursue both their sporting ambitions and academic goals. These partnerships reflect STADIO's commitment to developing well-rounded individuals by providing flexible, quality higher education that supports athletes throughout their sporting careers. While success on the field requires dedication, discipline, resilience, and teamwork, long-term success in life also depends on education and personal development. By empowering rugby players to continue their studies while competing at a high level, STADIO helps them build meaningful careers beyond sport and equips them with the skills needed to thrive in every arena of life. Through these partnerships, STADIO is investing in the next generation of leaders, ensuring that young athletes are prepared for success both on and off the field.
