QUALIFICATION OVERVIEW

This degree offers advanced, specialised study in Contract Law. Designed for individuals seeking to deepen their legal expertise, this programme provides an in-depth exploration of complex contractual issues and their application within the South African legal landscape. The curriculum is meticulously structured to equip students with a sophisticated understanding of contract law theory and application thereof through core modules comprising of Advanced Contract Law, Consumer Protection Law, Law of Sale & Lease, and Interpretation & Drafting of Contracts.

The programme culminates in a Dissertation, allowing students to undertake original research on a specialised topic within contract law, thereby contributing to legal scholarship and developing advanced research methodologies. Graduates of this LLM degree will possess the specialised knowledge and critical thinking skills to excel in roles requiring advanced contractual expertise, including  legal advisory, corporate law, commercial litigation, and academic pursuits.

Entry Requirements

THE ADMISSION CRITERIA FOR THE MASTER OF LAWS IN CONTRACT LAW (LLM) ARE:

  • A Bachelor of Laws degree on NQF level 8 with an average of 60% across all modules on the degree.

    • If a student did not obtain the required average of 60%, but has a proven record of relevant work experience, an admissions examination may be required OR a portfolio consisting of recent research-based essays, assignments, or relevant work may be required.

  • Applicants must have completed a Legal Research Module on NQF level 8 as part of the Bachelor of Laws.

    • Bridging course: If an applicant does not comply with this requirement, they must first complete STADIO’s Legal Research Methodology module (a semester module offered on NQF level 8).
