Each year, the STADIO School of Commerce’s B. Com Digital Marketing students are required to complete some of their third-year subjects by applying the skills they have learned to an existing brand. This in turn ensures that work integrated learning occurs, since the taught theory now has to result in an applicable marketing plan.

Our third-year students from both our Bellville and Centurion campuses work together throughout the year in groups of 5 to investigate, research and ultimately integrate the information into suggestions and a comprehensive marketing plan.

This year, Unboxed Foods, a convenience meal producer and distributor based in Kraaifontein, Cape Town, is partnering with STADIO to assist with the practical testing of these skills and will benefit from the ideas generated by students throughout the year.

Unboxed Foods prepares and delivers meals that customers can order according to their preferences, with options including Keto, high-protein, healthy, and guilt-free delights. The range spans salads, sandwiches and wraps, pastas, poke bowls, and a variety of chicken, beef, fish and pork dishes, as well as oat bars and a mouth-watering chocolate bowl for those with a sweet tooth! Fan favourites such as deconstructed bobotie with coconut flakes and biltong powder is making a return for his recent autumn menu changes.

Clients also have the opportunity to order from Unboxed Foods’ website or via Whatsapp messaging.

At the end of the year, students will present their final marketing ideas to Francois Hugo, Chef and Founder of the Unboxed Foods brand. Their proposals will demonstrate how Unboxed can effectively spread its marketing message to a broader audience, taking into account seasonal planning, different channels and methods as well as the type of client that he should onboard and retain.

The subjects integrated into this project include Strategic Marketing Planning, Consumer Behaviour and Digital Marketing Systems. Unboxed Foods can then implement any of the students’ ideas in future marketing campaigns, promotions or communications targeting both existing and potential consumers.

Unboxed Foods’ chef, Francois Hugo will also be a TV celebrity soon! We are not allowed to say anything more at this stage, but once we have broadcast dates for the show, we can reveal more and keep you updated with his progress.
