As part of the School of Commerce Industry Month in September, STADIO Bellville Campus had the privilege of hosting Dr Paul Vorster, Head of the Research Bureau at The Ethics Institute (TEI). Students from other campuses were invited to join remotely. Dr Vorster delivered an insightful lecture to students across various disciplines, emphasising the importance of business ethics and the critical role ethical frameworks play in the workplace. His presentation not only explored the theoretical underpinnings of business ethics but also delved into real-world applications, sparking thoughtful discussions among the students.
Following his presentation, students participated in an interactive dialogue, exploring the challenges and opportunities of implementing business ethics, both within South Africa and globally. This discussion highlighted the complexities of ethical decision-making in today’s interconnected business world, offering students a broader perspective on how ethics can be embedded across various industries.
In addition to this engagement, Dr Vorster also served as a guest speaker for our Global Citizenship module, a key component of the BCom General curriculum, offered via Blended Contact and Distance Learning. His extensive practical knowledge, gained from years of experience, enabled him to present case studies and relatable examples to the classroom, enriching the learning experience and deepening students' understanding of ethics in a global context.
Looking ahead to 2025, we are excited to further strengthen our partnership with TEI. We are actively exploring new opportunities for students, particularly through the endorsement and upcoming offering of The Ethics Ambassador Programme, designed by TEI. This initiative will equip students with the tools to champion ethical leadership within their communities and workplaces.
