STADIO, in collaboration with Willem Strauss, President of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union, and leading rugby website Ruggas.co.za, is very proud to introduce the Fundamentals in Sport Commerce short learning programme.

The self-paced on-line  learning programme spans twelve weeks with a minimum

focused learning time of 90 hours and is aimed at a wide spectrum of sport managers involved with coaching, sports events, sports operations, sports facilities, school sports, club sports, sports marketing, sports sponsorships and sports finances.

The global sports market is expected to reach approximately $614.1 billion in 2022 and the way in which we respond to the ever changing transformative landscape in sport requires fundamental skills and highly qualified personnel in all aspects of commercial sports management.

It’s exciting that students now have structured access to the vast knowledge base which Strauss has acquired during his tenure of almost 30 years as commercial sports manager.

The Blue Bulls president has vast experience in the sport commerce field and in all aspects of sports management. On what led to the creation of this first of its kind course, he says, “I think it is very necessary, especially since lockdown, for sport organisers, coaches and administrators to learn how to manage their departments like business entities.

“They need to be able to determine commercial values and properties, and generate return on investment for stakeholders as well as exposure and awareness opportunities for sponsors and commercial partners,” says Strauss.

“In the course they are also introduced to social upliftment and they’re equipped with the tools to create additional streams of revenue by plugging in partners and stakeholders, thereby leveraging their particular product in sport to its fullest extent.”

According to Strauss the course is aimed at anyone in sport who works with a budget, no matter how small or big, and who manages the relationship with any kind of commercial stakeholder.

“Students will be equipped with special commercial skills which will be a benefit their organisation and the student. They key is that they will be able to add value to commercial sporting properties.

“It’s a differentiator and we as sports managers and administrators are looking for these attributes in our personnel. Simply stated, they help us optimise our value proposition and income.”
