In alignment with STADIO's vision to prepare students for the world of work, the School of Commerce took a significant step by launching a series of industry seminars in September. Each Monday throughout the month, a guest speaker from a specific industry was invited to share valuable insights and real-world expertise with Commerce students, spanning both the Bellville and Centurion campuses. These seminars covered a wide range of topics, providing students with exposure to various career paths and industry practices.
From project management to marketing, and from business ethics to financial management, the seminars gave students a deeper understanding of the commercial environment's complexities and opportunities. The speakers not only shared their knowledge but also engaged students in discussions on current trends and challenges within their fields, bridging the gap between academic theory and industry practice.
The following esteemed professionals generously contributed their time and expertise:
-
Dr. Mick Muianga, representing the Project Management Institute (PMI), who shared critical insights on project management methodologies and certifications.
-
Enrico du Plessis, from the Marketing Association of South Africa (MASA), joined by Marketing Consultant Peter Ivanoff, discussed the evolving landscape of marketing and how digital strategies are reshaping the industry.
-
Dr. Paul Vorster, from the Ethics Institute (TEI), emphasized the importance of ethical leadership in business, tying it to long-term organizational success.
-
Michelle Dube, representing the SAAA (South African Accounting Academy), who provided an in-depth look at the financial management sector, focusing on key competencies required in today’s fast-paced business world.
These seminars not only enriched the students' learning experience but also encouraged them to think critically about their career aspirations and how they can actively contribute to their chosen fields. This initiative is part of the School of Commerce's ongoing commitment to creating strong connections between academia and industry, ensuring that students are well-equipped to transition into the professional world upon graduation.
