Exciting news for the Waterfall Business District: STADIO School of Commerce is extending its tried and tested offerings from Bellville and Centurion to the Waterfall Campus! The School of Commerce is known for its relevant and current qualifications, passionate lecturers and dedicated student support. Programmes are offered in a blended contact model with industry engagements and problem and project-based learning. Creative teaching methods prepare students each step of the way to ensure proficiency and confidence in the subject matter.

The first qualification offered from 2025 via Contact Learning will be the new BCom in Accounting. This is definitely not just another BCom in Accounting. First-year students will be familiarised with introductory commercial and legal concepts such as business management, business mathematics, statistics and economics. They will also learn critical skills demanded in today’s digital age, such as foundational IT skills and using data to make decisions. Additionally, foundational and financial accounting principles will be covered.

In the second year of the programme, students will focus on accounting, taxation and auditing to develop the technical skills required in their future careers. They will also immerse themselves in global citizenship concepts, such as sustainability and ethics, as central topics influencing the commerce world. In the third year, students will further their studies in the main subjects of accounting and taxation. They can select from traditional electives like auditing or corporate law, as well as current subjects like technology and innovation management or future thinking and scenario planning, to distinguish themselves from other graduates in their career journeys.

Since STADIO’s vision is to widen access to education, the programme provides for recognition of prior learning for access and interested individuals can apply with the relevant documentation. Additionally, STADIO will offer access to students with a mature age exemption from the age of 23 years. Once students graduate, they can qualify for a bridging programme to a Postgraduate or Honours program in accounting. From there, students can qualify for specific industry designations, such as CA(SA) or others.

Various job opportunities will allow graduates to implement solutions in a competitive and changing financial environment. STADIO is confident that graduates will be able to function responsibly, legally, and ethically in the field of accounting within any organisation (public or private), with due consideration of the professional codes of conduct in the accounting environment. Graduates will leave with an adaptive mindset to stay abreast of developments in the business world and continuous challenges in the accounting profession. Furthermore, they will be well-rounded individuals, able to demonstrate an awareness of cultural diversity, social reality and the need for transformation in South Africa.

The BCom in Accounting will not only open-up certification and license options but also secure job opportunities with competitive salaries based on transferable skills such as problem-solving, analytical and communication skills in diverse industries, including entrepreneurship. Graduates will have opportunities for advancement and flexibility in an environment where their job roles will benefit from prestige and respect.

Some of the job roles that graduates can explore include accounting specialist, senior bookkeeper, company secretary, junior auditor, tax advisor, actuary, or small business owner.

Once this new qualification is rolled out at Waterfall, STADIO plans to extend other qualifications and its Bellville-based Entrepreneurship Hub to Waterfall as well, with relevant short course offerings for start-ups and existing businesses. Look out for more news!
