I would like to extend a warm welcome to all previous, existing, and potential students to our new social media pages for the STADIO School of Commerce specifically. For those that do not know me, I am the Head of School for the School of Commerce at STADIO.

Today, I am introducing a regular feature that you will see going forward, where we will introduce our full School of Commerce Team. There are various questions that we will endeavor to answer about each person in the team. Hopefully, getting to know more about us, will encourage you to ask more questions, and engage with the team more so.

What is your biggest passion?

Definitely Learning. I will never stop learning, because I am too curious to find out about new things.

Which formal qualifications did you pursue?

My first formal qualification was an apprenticeship as a skilled banker, directly after my matric. I then went on to study a BCOM in Economics and Management, followed by an Honours and Masters in Management, at Johannes-Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany. I then embarked upon the Certified European Financial Analyst designation. When I came to South Africa, I completed an MBA at the University of Cape Town and a PhD in Risk Management at Northwest University in Potchefstroom.

Which industry experience did you add to your profile?

I worked in banking and investment management for about 12 years. I also gained experience in consulting and training for about 3 years. Finally, I have added academic teaching and management experience for about 12 years to my profile as well. I have been self-employed, but also worked for small and big businesses, so I can say I covered a wide spectrum.

Which countries have you lived in or visited, and what did you like most about it?

I have lived in Europe, the US and South Africa. I really enjoyed living in the US, even though I was skeptical at first. I came to learn that there is nothing wrong with being self-confident and instilling confidence in your children. I have visited many countries in South America and Asia, as a backpacker when I was younger. I have also travelled in the US and Canada, and Europe. I love immersing myself in different cultures and learning new languages.

What do you do in your free time?

I enjoy spending time outdoors, but I also love reading a good novel. I love cooking and baking and adore travelling. I adore music, I sing in a professional choir. I would like to go back to sailing, I have not used my skipper license in over 10 years, but the time will come again!

What is your fondest memory of working in business education?

It is one of the students that I had accompanied for 9 years when she was studying towards her BCOM via Distance Learning, while holding several jobs, raising two children, and navigating various other challenges. I couldn’t help but hug her on the graduation stage!
