A proud alumna of the University of the Free State, Dr Tlali’s academic foundation began with a BCom in Marketing and a BCom Honours degrees, and courses in Economics and Project Management. Her academic journey continued with a Master’s in Business Leadership from the Graduate School of Business Leadership at UNISA, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education from the Independent Institute of Education (IIE). Committed to continuous professional development, she has also completed numerous short courses in Public Finance Management (GIBS, University of Pretoria), Business Acumen, Emotional Intelligence, Mentorship, Customer Service, Human resources and Labour practices, Assessment and Moderation, and other business and leadership development programmes. Most recently, she achieved a significant milestone by completing her Doctorate in Management at STADIO Higher Education, an accomplishment that reflects her unwavering belief in the transformative power of education.
Dr Tlali’s career journey is a compelling story of growth, dedication, and purpose. Before entering academia, she began her professional life in the hospitality industry as a marketing intern, where her work ethic and creativity quickly led to her promotion as Marketing Manager. Followed by dedication in a management role in the Mining industry and Corporate Communication. Her early exposure to the dynamics of client engagement and service excellence continues to shape her leadership approach today, one that values people, communication, and results.
Her transition into higher education began as an academic assistant as well as a postgraduate research assistant, and soon thereafter, as a lecturer in both public and private institutions. In these roles, she discovered her passion for teaching, mentorship, and shaping the student experience. While lecturing, she also offered marketing consultancy services to small and medium enterprises, bridging her academic expertise with practical industry applications. Her exceptional organizational skills and commitment to quality education led to her promotion as a Departmental Coordinator, where she managed academic operations and contributed to curriculum development and staff training.
Dr Tlali’s leadership trajectory expanded when she accepted the role of Provincial Manager for Pearson South Africa in the Free State. This position provided her with valuable corporate exposure, strengthening her strategic management capabilities and offering a holistic view of education as both a business and a social mission. Her strong performance led to her appointment as Campus Director at Pearson Higher Education in Bloemfontein (now Eduvos), followed by her tenure as Head of Campus at Rosebank College (IIE). Each leadership role allowed her to implement innovative strategies that enhanced student support, academic quality, and institutional culture.
Today, as Head of Campus at STADIO Centurion, Dr Tlali leads one of the most vibrant and dynamic campuses in the STADIO network. Her leadership philosophy is rooted in authenticity, accountability, and service - values she demonstrates daily through her engagement with students, staff, parents, service providers, Department of Education and Higher Education and community partners. She is known for her open-door leadership style, her ability to nurture potential in others, and her vision of education as a catalyst for personal and societal transformation.
Beyond her professional responsibilities, Dr Tlali is deeply committed to advancing leadership in higher education, particularly among women. She believes in empowering others to lead with purpose, empathy, and integrity. Her academic research and professional practice converge on themes of authentic leadership, organisational commitment, and employee performance, areas that she continues to explore through research and practical engagements.
Dr Tlali’s guiding philosophy, “touching people’s lives, one at a time”, beautifully encapsulates her purpose-driven career. She believes that every individual deserves the opportunity to learn, to grow, and to contribute meaningfully to society. Her work at STADIO embodies this belief, creating an environment where students are not only educated but inspired to lead, innovate, and make a difference. Through her experience, scholarship, and passion, Dr Marjorie Tlali stands as a testament to the power of education to change lives. Her journey, from the lecture halls of Bloemfontein to leading one of South Africa’s premier higher education campuses, reflects a lifelong commitment to excellence, empowerment, and education that transforms.
