COURSE OVERVIEW

This short course is aimed at teachers who are currently teaching Grades 4 to 6 mathematics who require up-skilling in fraction concepts and computation and would also benefit teachers wanting to improve their pedagogy in mathematics. The teachers who register for this course may have a wide range of experience and subject knowledge in the discipline.

The purpose of the course is to revise, develop and consolidate subject knowledge of fraction concepts and computation as a teacher. The topics covered include ideas that are important if you are to develop a correct conceptual understanding of fractions and fraction computation. This understanding will enable participants to solve fraction problems and practice instructional approaches that underpin conceptual development in fraction concepts and computation.

COURSE CURRICULUM

  • Unit 1: Fraction Concepts

  • Unit 2: Fraction Concepts

  • Unit 3: Adding and subtracting Fractions

  • Unit 4: Adding and subtracting Fractions; and

  • Unit 5: Multiplying and dividing Fractions.
